The Heathrow odyssey Story: Tory MPs ‘to rebel’ over Heathrow third runway plans The Heathrow saga goes on. It’s a bit like Homer’s hero Odysseus in The Odyssey who takes 20-odd years to find his way home after the Trojan wars. With Heathrow, there is too much politics and not enough pragmatism.

Travel 2 service issues

Anyone else had issues with poor customer service from Travel 2, including having to chase for a refund, not booking transfers and variable quality of accommodation?

Maybe Clia’s D’Aoust should ‘discount’ her salary

Story: Clia president issues sales warning to cruise specialist agents There is a lot of evidence that what Cindy D’Aoust is saying is incorrect. Many large cruise agents discount a lot and continue to grow. I’m more worried that her pay in 2016 increased to a staggering $850,000, when Clia revenues declined. Given that she is clearly out of touch with the UK market, can we have a debate about whether she should be selling her services at a discount?

ALAN HERRON Travel Weekly welcomes a response from D’Aoust or Clia

Tui’s stance: arrogant or pragmatic?

Big Interview: Andrew Flintham, Tui’s new UK and Ireland managing director As regards Tui and third-party distribution, why doesn’t it simply stop trying to have its cake and eat it? It is completely unacceptable for Flintham to say Tui “values” independent agents when it consistently cuts them out of the loop. He says Tui’s use of third-party agents where it needs them “may sound a bit mercenary”; I’d say it has been consistently arrogant. Little will change with a new managing director, but maybe one day, when Tui needs us, agents will finally show their teeth. Value and support? I’m still laughing! KEITH

Andrew has been very honest about this, as has Tui. Where it doesn’t have the reach, presence, brand or desire to operate in a certain town, region or demographic, it creates partnerships. I find it odd that some third-party agents complain about not being able to participate or gain better terms from Tui. Nobody owes anyone a favour in business. And no, I don’t work for Tui – I just understand how business works. MIKE
