Ê Target: We set up this group

to represent all travel agents

4862 4897

We set up campaign group Target because we felt there needs to be reform across the entire travel industry, and government, to ensure travel agents’ voices are heard and their views acted upon. The feedback we’ve had is that very few agents feel like the existing trade bodies fully understand the challenges we face. Those bodies seem preoccupied with pushing their own agendas and seem unable to work together with a single message. So we felt a separate body to represent all agents was needed, and decided to take up the challenge ourselves. Target’s campaigning will call for more government support for every travel agent. It will also campaign for the various trade bodies to be more representative of the travel industry. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received so far, with more than 1,000 agents having joined. Target co-founders Graeme Brett (Westoe Travel) and Jill Waite (Pole Travel)

Designer Travel @designertravel It’s ludicrous that our taxes are being used to send checkers to our doors if we’ve been to an amber destination (with less Covid than here), yet I can freely roam the Indian-variant hotspots in the UK without a care! Please apply logic @grantshapps

Cancelled: Short notice

Story: Tui cancels more June departures Sandra Savage: Seven days is not enough notice. I have to give 14 days’ notice for things like the kennels or pay full price for however long the pet is booked in for.

@manairportuk Manchester airport Last week, the Emirates Airbus A380 returned to Manchester Airport

Support: MPs don’t get it Story: Government rejects MPs’ call to support agents I’m staggered at the idiocy of the MPs speaking. They all call out the impact on the consumer but forget that the industry is on its uppers. Only one MP seemed to get it – that agents are hamstrung by cashflow constraints but are expected to front up money for refunds, so need relief from rates etc. Simon Mennens

Mr Oliver Broad @traveloliver RB Collection Very promising stats today from @catalannews: “No Covid deaths reported today, outbreak risk drops to lowest level in 10 months.” More English accents heard around the city today indicating more visitors are returning

Amber: Battle for survival

Story: Trade insists booking amber is responsible when FCDO advice allows Adrian Kinsley: I guess for some if not all, it’s sadly down to a battle for survival – offer amber holidays or go bust. What a lovely position we’ve been forced into.
