VIEWERS ARE NEVER HAPPY
I don’t understand how you
can do a DARK SHADOWS Round Table Discussion [VW 169:16-49] when so many at the table never saw the entire series or seem al- most apathetic to it! It’s like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp saying they are fans of the series, then mocking it in interviews. Maybe not that bad.
Having just watched all 1,225 episodes and the two 1970 mov- ies, I can safely say that all of you are wrong: the storylines are all incredible. In a great storyline (the intro of Barnabas, 1795, 1897), there can be some terribly bor- ing, illogical episodes, and in some storylines your participants seem to despise (Parallel Time, Leviathan, PT 1840-1841), there are episodes among the best the show has to offer. Certain mo- ments or scenes, even in the
worst episodes, carry more weight than any other horror, sci- fi or fantasy program ever, any- where—for instance, when Willie finds out Barnabas is back to being a vampire during the Le- viathan sequence. or when David is haunted in the Antique Shop.
Grayson Hall and Jonathan Frid share some correspondence in DARK SHADOWS Episode 688 (2/12/69), available on DVD from MPI Home Video.
