Advances in fluid bed technology have brought many advantages. Here, we discuss the applications that are most suited to these processes


FLUID BED TECHNOLOGY FROM EXPERTS One of the most effective processes to enhance product properties for applications such as food and feed production, chemicals, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals is fluid bed technology. The targeted design of particles enables it to achieve special effects like increased product and storage stability, enhanced bulk handling and ease dosage. It can also improve solubility, protect against the


influence of oxygen, light and temperature or the deliberate release of additives and keep them stable. Fluid bed processes are most effective and suitable for applications such as thermal treatment of bulk products (drying and cooling), formation of particles from powders (agglomeration) and from liquids (spray granulation) and coating and encapsulation. During the process, gas – usually air – flows with a certain velocity through powdered solids and sets them in intense motion, so that the particles are separated and a fluidised bed is formed, creating perfect conditions for heat and mass transfer. The fluidised bed technology is


basically divided


into versatile processes: drying, agglomeration, spray granulation, spray-drying agglomeration, coating and micro-encapsulation. Depending on the primary compound, the amount and the demands on the product, the technology can be operated as a continuous or a


batch-wise process. In bulk production, particularly, the continuous processes reduce operating and production costs. The processes are fully automatic, reproducible at any time and guarantee a high product quality. In batch operation, the individual fluidised bed process steps are time-staggered. This offers more flexibility with the variation of parameters and process settings for manufacturing complex products. Batch processes are particularly appropriate for the production of multiple recipes of varying quantities. We offer a holistic approach to both continuous and batch-wise operated fluid bed plants. In our pilot plant, we simulate individual requirements on a lab scale, optimise product properties and test parameters for production plants, all according to our motto: Bringing Ideas in Motion.
