CSE:What will your it-sa 365 workshop focus on, and what do you hope your audience will learn from it? PAULA JANUSZKIEWICZ: To recognise and understand hacker’s paths within the infrastructure and, afterwards, to know how to protect ourselves, all of us should take the right perspective. This is the reason why I would like to show very precisely how hackers can break in. I believe that the best way to open people’s eyes is to present hacking activities by putting themselves in hacker’s shoes. During my workshop, we will be discussing phishing, lateral movement, ransomware, data leaks, and blackmail all around this. These demonstrations are aimed at making people aware of most important threats to implement attacks recognition and proper steps taken in order to prepare the company for potential incidents.
CSE: How has the practice of penetration testing changed in recent years, in CQURE’s experience? For instance, have more eff ective techniques been developed? PJ: Recent developments show that the technology is only the basis. We should consider the growth of expert’s skills, their deep understanding of diff erent systems and having the up-to-date knowledge about today’s changes in IT infrastructures. First, I would point out that just 10 years ago services like penetration tests were rather exclusive. Today, pentests are well known – not only to large enterprises, but also to smaller companies.
