We are now faced with smart new generation
of people, Paula explains, who understand how to get inside and get around our computer systems: “Some are doing it just for fun, while others are doing it with altogether more sinister intent. Cyber crime is a very lucrative occupation, not just because of the potential fi nancial return, but because it is quite easy to get away with it – uncaught.” Paula adds: “Most of us have read news stories about identity
thieves. Why are hackers targeting those IT systems and not the others? Usually the hacker’s goal is quite simple: let’s do whatever is possible. Our response to this challenge should always be: ‘Do whatever you want but somewhere else!”. Although IT systems are better protected right now, hackers’ skillsets are constantly evolving as well, Paula says: “What’s more, we have to keep our minds open and look for unconventional solutions. It is a continuous process that – as I mentioned – is related to the development and transition to the virtual world”. During this Workshop you will learn how to recognise a hacker’s
