Scientists have proved that upbeat music can make us feel happier, but you don’t need to be Einstein to work that out – just listen to happy music and see what happens.
Activity: Make a Happiness Mix
Make a list of your favourite songs. You can choose songs that remind you of happy times, or songs that make you smiley, excited or full of energy. You could also ask your family or friends to suggest some happy songs. Now use your list of favourite songs to create your own happy playlist. There are lots of ways to do this on and offline, so you might need to ask an adult to help you with this. Listen to your playlist every day for 10 days. Before you listen, score your mood out of 10, using 10 for super happy and 0 for really not. Then score your mood again after you have listened and see if it has made a difference.

How It Works As we listen, music gets to work on our nervous system, sending messages from our brain to our body. These messages control our blood pressure and heartbeat. Music also sends messages to our brain that can change our feelings and emotions. Research with 1,000 pupils who took singing classes found they were happier at school. Music really can affect our bodies and minds. Amazing!

…by making themed music mixes. You could make a music mix to make you feel energetic and another to make you feel relaxed. Use your music to change your mood, or even to cheer up a friend.
