UKLA President’s Report
For those of you who attended the UKLA AGM in late June you will probably be aware that this will be my last report as UKLA President. My term of office has come to an end and UKLA is fortunate to have as its new President Mr John Alton of Morris Lubricants. John is extremely well known throughout the industry and will bring a new dimension to the role of President. I have received excellent support from the UKLA members, the UKLA secretariat and the UKLA board and I am certain that John will continue to enjoy the same levels of support from all concerned.
The natural inclination when leaving office, I suppose, is to look back and review what happened. However I prefer to look forward. UKLA is entering a new era with a new President and a new secretariat. It does so with a solid financial base and a vibrant membership enhanced by the MWF-PSG. UKLA members continue to be very prominent in UEIL activities. The Association is extremely well placed to deal with matters affecting our industry in the future.
The one issue that I have been involved in on behalf of UKLA is that of tackling the problem of misrepresentation of the make-up of lubricant products that are offered for sale in the UK.
Despite UKLA involving UEIL and ATIEL in this, and a lot of hard work by many people, no clear progress has been made. However there are new initiatives being put in place and our new President is already very active in addressing this particular problem. I think it will be a case of “Watch This Space”.
I am sure that you will join me in wishing our new President, John Alton, every success in his term of office.
I have always closed my LUBE reports with: “If any readers want to contact me directly to raise any concerns, issues or pass on any information that may be useful to other UKLA members then please email me at
dejukes@googlemail.com” and if I do receive any communications please rest assured that they will be handed over to our new President or the UKLA secretariat for their expert attention.

UEIL President’s Report Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I recently had the pleasure to attend the General Assembly of LAB, the Belgian Delegation of UEIL. An interesting meeting animated by the guest speaker, Mr Dirk Sterckx. Sterckx is a former journalist, editor, EU reporter and Member of the European Parliament. He gave an entertaining presentation on the European White Paper on a single and efficient European Transport Area. An inspiring view into the future!
VSN held its General Assembly in Rotterdam which was followed by a visit to the Rotterdam Car Centre. Yearly gigantic ships, the so called PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers) deliver 450,000 vehicles for distribution into Europe. The meeting was finished by a dinner, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the VSN foundation.
See you in Lisbon! Jos Jong
UEIL President
