“Four decades of working closely with so many of the UK’s hazardous industrial sectors, has also given us the risk understanding needed to support new, emerging and innovative technologies using the same can-do creative outlook.

“Alternative fuel sources, such as HVO and BioLPG, as well as energy production and waste disposal, like anaerobic digestion, are a case in point, and we will continue to work closely with trade associations to help insurance underwriters understand these evolving risks and how they can be effectively managed We’re also a founding member of a working group that aims to highlight the environmental benefits of engaging experienced and independently assessed spill responders to the wider insurance market; encouraging those insurers that are not necessarily familiar with these incidents to focus on optimising outcomes and adherence to best practice.

“As we look to support our clients and their sectors in the transition to a renewable energy- fuelled, low-carbon future, we’ll make sure we use our expertise to deliver innovative risk solutions and real value, just as our founders did 40 years ago.”

OAMPS Hazardous Industries Founded by petrochemical specialists 40 years ago in 1985, OAMPS Hazardous Industries now provides insurance advice to a wide range of hazardous and environmental industries, from chemicals, fuel and LPG distribution and haulage to wastewater, environmental contractors and oil & chemical recycling.

As specialists who use their expertise to benefit those they insure, OAMPS Hazardous Industries covers all aspects of clients’ requirements – from manufacture to wholesale, distribution, import/export, storage, haulage, installation and servicing – and works in partnership with clients to advise them on how to minimise risk.

This includes working closely with key industry bodies and we are proud to be the appointed insurance manager of Hazchem Network, Oil Recycling Association, Liquid Gas UK and UK & Ireland Spill Association.

Miltos Bantis, GEIR President

In February, the European Commission introduced the Clean Industrial Deal, a landmark initiative toward a decarbonised and competitive industry in Europe. The circular economy will be a priority for the Deal, as it is key to maximise the EU’s limited resources, reduce dependencies and lower CO2

emissions. In turn, this

would creates a more sustainable industrial model that benefits the environment and enhances economic competitiveness. The ambition of the Clean Industrial Deal is to make the EU the world leader on circular economy by 2030

GEIR welcomes the focus on circularity and the objective of 24% circular material use by 2030. By promoting policies that incentivise circular practices, the Deal can create a favourable regulatory

environment for regenerated products. Central to the plan is the Circular Economy Act, set for 2026, which will aim to facilitate the transition from waste to valuable secondary raw materials, simplify and expand in a targeted manner extended producer responsibility, and harmonise end of waste criteria for targeted waste streams. Besides, the European Commission will consider additional measures to make recycling of critical raw materials waste within the EU more attractive, hence reducing dependencies on imports.

For GEIR this initiative represents a significant opportunity to advance the regeneration of waste oils, a key component of sustainable resource management and true example of circular economy principles. We stand ready to work with policy-makers and other stakeholder on the implementation of the Clean Industrial Deal, making sure our industry is recognised as a key driver of circular transition.
