UKLA President’s Report
On June 11th, the UKLA will be holding its fourth sustainability conference in London entitled Roadmap for the European Lubricants Industry. Thank you to our sponsors ExxonMobil, Multisol, Krahn, SIP, Lubricant Expo, Chevron, Ergon and Lubrizol for support this event.
The conference brings together industry experts to debate the latest topics affecting our sector. From market trends, consumer behaviour, sustainability, environmental impact, emerging opportunities, to market analysis and forecasts. With speakers from ExxonMobil, Argus, UEIL, Lubrizol, Certas and LP Brussels.
And there is much to debate. According to the Office for National Statistics, UK business investment decreased by 3.2% between October to December 2024 and is 0.7% below same level a year ago.
The lubricants industry thrives on certainty. The sector is regarded as a bellwether of economic activity in a country, reflecting the value of goods it produces.
When the economy is buoyant the amount of goods produced increases as demand grows amongst businesses as well as consumers.
Global conflicts and uncertain policy environments make consumers nervous about committing to large expenditure. For businesses too.
But there are some signs of hope on the horizon. Oxford Economists believe that improving profitability and falling interest rates will underpin a gradual pickup in UK business investment, following a decade in which capital spending has flatlined.
Proportionate and reasonable regulation, lower interest rates and rising standards of living for consumers are the keys to economic growth, enabling lubricant companies to invest over the longer-term not only for the benefit of independent business owners like UKLA members, but also for the benefit of our end users.

UEIL President’s Report
Following the success of UEIL’s recent outreach events in Brussels, I am delighted to welcome our network to the 60th annual UEIL Congress in Stresa, Italy.
With the theme “Navigating Transformation: Sustainability, Resilience, and Digitalisation in the Lubricants Industry,” this milestone event will explore how our sector can adapt to an ever-changing world. We will address key challenges, including fragile supply chains, regulatory complexity, sustainability, electrification, talent attraction, and the rise of artificial intelligence—with its vast opportunities and inherent risks. In such a rapidly evolving landscape, explaining what we do—and why it matters—is more crucial than ever.
I look forward to two days of insightful discussions on these pressing issues.
To complement our setting at the stunning Regina 4 LUBE MAGAZINE NO.186 APRIL 2025
Palace Hotel, I invite Silver package participants to an authentic Italian lake experience during my President’s Reception. We’ll embark on a boat trip to Isola Bella, enjoy an exclusive after-hours tour of Palazzo Borromeo, sip an aperitivo in its gardens, and conclude with a traditional Piedmontese dinner before returning to Stresa.
Of course, no 60th anniversary is complete without a grand celebration! Our Gala Dinner at the historic Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées promises an unforgettable evening of music, fine dining, and great company—followed by a celebratory after-party at Disco Inferno.
Registrations are now open, and I look forward to seeing you in Stresa—and on the dance floor!
Mattia Adani, UEIL President
