In all of these experiments, the children were able to predict and then carry out the experiments themselves, learning along the way how lubricants work to reduce friction and improve the lifetime and efficient working of machinery.


engage with children at all stages of their education. Our experiments were simple but effective and fairly easy to create. We would be more than happy to repeat this experience and also to share our experiences. We would love to be able to inspire other colleagues working in the lubricant sector who may be considering similar ways to engage with their local schools.

Andrew commented ‘There is great value and advantages to providing children with the opportunity to have hands-on experiences and experiment in this way. These are where the sparks of inspiration are born and can encourage students to continue forward with a STEM-based education beyond the early school years. We were very happy to support the school in this way’.


My own perspective is that schools are more than welcome to accept support from companies and individuals working in STEM sectors to help them
