UKLA President’s Report
This is my final column as President of UKLA. I took up the role when the UK was emerging from the COVID pandemic and our sector was still forming our post Brexit trading relationships with our partners in the European Union and across the world.
At the time my main focus was to provide stability and consistency in setting the direction of the association, never forgetting that we only exist to serve the interests of our members and the wider sector.
During my tenure, UKLA has held successive industry conferences, established Lube magazine as the European market leading publication with the support of the European association UEIL, and recommenced our social networking calendar, receiving over 600 guests to our events over the past twelve months.
We were proud to host the 2023 UEIL Congress in Manchester in May, sending a clear signal to the sector that we are and will always remain part of the wider European lubricants supply chain.
Our fortunes are bound in with those of Europe through a shared sense of history, culture and tradition, but also of business, trade and our relationships with our customers that go back many thousands of years.
The future is perhaps a little uncertain at the moment with the sector facing strong economic headwinds, the pathway to a net zero world away from fossil fuels a little unclear, and the opportunities that Artificial Intelligence offers to reshaping our business, not yet apparent.
However, I am certain that the sector will grasp the opportunities provided by these challenges we face, and emerge stronger, more integrated and more ready than ever to meet the needs of our customers through delivering more innovative products and more creative supply chain solutions.
