To reiterate, machining conditions, metal types, fluid selection, and other factors found in end-use operations can impact the performance of any fluid. Therefore, these tests serve as guidelines to help users select the desired functionality, making them valuable evaluation techniques. In truth, the final raw material selection is based on rigorous testing by the formulator. That does not mean that additive manufacturers cannot provide valuable feedback before the introduction of a raw material candidate to a final formulation by maintaining awareness of testing standards and the demands of the current market.

It is crucial to consider the significance of alternative fatty acids in metalworking fluid and lubricant formulations as a valuable addition to the current product offerings in the future. Since the need for lubricants and metalworking fluids is not likely to decrease, taking a proactive approach to diversifying raw material streams ensures that the industry can adapt to changing market conditions while still reducing environmental impact. Incorporating various feedstocks promotes innovation, enabling customised solutions to address potential new challenges in the metalworking and lubricant industry.
