Keynote speaker
We spoke with key speaker Gavin Warner, General Manager – Sustainability, Shell Global Lubricants, to discuss the event in more detail and the importance of attending for the lubricant sector
Why is it important for yourself and Shell to be represented at this conference? The clue is in the name of the event. The topic is sustainability and as a leading global lubricants supplier sustainability is an integral part of our business strategy, and we aim to play our part.
What will you be speaking about? I would like to share an update on Shell’s Powering Progress Strategy and what it means for our Global Lubricants business. I will include some proof points of the initial progress we are making and will explain why we view the circular economy and waste as an additional and important lever, in addition to carbon when it comes to sustainability. Finally, I will outline what we believe the role the lubricants Industry can play to continue to drive progress through the energy transition.
What can I/my business learn from your presentation?
Sustainability should be integral and not separate to your business strategy and that we have an opportunity to lower carbon and reduce waste as we continue to meet the needs of customers today and for tomorrow.
Why do you think sustainability is important for our industry?
Our industry plays a key role in keeping the world moving and through energy and fuel efficiency alone we are already contributing to helping our customers to decarbonise and reduce waste. If we can do this more and better and with more sustainable solutions, then we can be unstoppable.
Why is talent acquisition important i.e., the succession of our industry?
Attracting the best talent is important for any industry and it is no different for ours. However, in our case we need to demonstrate our commitment and delivery towards the energy transition. We need to do this if we want to meet the expectations of the younger talent pool, who view sustainability as a key driver for their career choices.
What do you personally hope to get from attending the conference? For me, I hope to meet and to learn from people who are leaning in, learning more, and taking more action to accelerate the progress on sustainability within our industry and for our customers.
You have seen the programme what do you think of the day itself? The programme is strong, with expert speakers and panellists presenting and debating a range of pertinent topics over the two days.
Why should people attend this conference? I would encourage others to attend and take this opportunity to hear from their peers, to learn more and to be better equipped to take more sustainable action within their own business, and for their customers.
