A warm welcome to our August issue.

Sustainability continues to be an industry focus both in Europe and across the globe. We have four articles for you examining in more depth, including A Study of Sustainable Bio-derived Metalworking Additives from Soshana Sakolsky (Ingevity), Re-refining Vs Recycling Waste Oil from Dr Srdan Sokolovic (Sowa Solutions), Re-refining used lubricants (Slicker Recycling in association with Avista Green) and finally an article focussed on Everything you ever wanted to know about the biodegradability of lubricants and grease from Vincent Bouillon (Eurofins BFB).

An opportune moment for me to mention our third Lube Media conference is taking place this Autumn in London (full details of which are on Page 27). We very much look forward to seeing you there for great presentations, panel discussions and networking.

Other contributors this issue include Mathew Cole-Evans (Lubrizol) looking at lubricant quality in an ever-evolving market, Wilhelm Rehbein (LANXESS) discussing environmental advantages of sulphur containing EP additives in metalworking and an article investigating hBN-based additive as a sulphur-free anti-wear booster for low viscosity e-driveline fluid applications from Stephan Wieber, Dmitriy Shakhvorostov and Peter Moore (Evonik).

Lube-Tech this month is provided by Dr Christoph J Rohbogner, CLS, OELCHECK, which examines Extended lubricant analysis using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr Rohbogner present this at OilDoc, Rosenheim in May and am delighted that he was happy to present his study for you, our readers.

All the regular features are here, including this month’s local report on Sweden courtesy of Paul Stephenson, OATS; and this issue I interview Nigel Bottom Managing Director, Witham Group with a few surprising facts that I am sure none of us knew!

Thank you, as ever, to all of our contributors who ensure that we as a publication are delivering authoritative content, we know you love to read!

Don’t forget to book your tickets for our Lube Media Succession & Sustainability Conference in October. Be part of the discussion and future of the industry.
