EDITOR INTERVIEW
In conversation with...
Where/when were you born & bit about family/ early years? I was born and raised in Derbyshire and have lived here my whole life. I love the Derbyshire countryside.
I have 2 beautiful boys with my partner.
What did you want to be growing up? I really enjoyed art and design, so initially wanted to be a fashion designer but I figured that would be a difficult industry to go into, so then decided I wanted to join the police force!
Education – where did you go, what subjects did you choose and why?
I studied with Macclesfield College and Oxford college of Marketing to gain my qualifications in Marketing and PR. I am a Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing and have a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
What was your path to higher education? It wasn’t until I started my role with a PR agency, I found my love for Marketing and PR. I was fortunate enough that the company I was working for at the time supported my PR qualification, obviously working whilst studying was extremely difficult but also beneficial.
First job – where and when, what did you like about it and what did you not? My first job was working in import and export. I enjoyed it, especially as my first ‘proper’ job, however I soon found the role too easy and there wasn’t any career progression at that point, so I moved on.
Career mapping; how has it led to where you are now? My first 2 roles were similar in terms of working in import and export. I then found a role with a

local PR agency and started doing pieces of design and writing. I loved it! After really enjoying art and design at school, I finally found part of a role where I could be creative. I then moved to my first marketing role at a construction firm. Again I enjoyed writing and the design elements. After a while, I found the role repetitive and wanted more of a challenge. I saw a role advertised at Lubrizol and went for it. After nearly 12 years, I am still in the marketing team and love my job. Every day is different, due to the variety of work but also the different businesses Lubrizol cover. I now lead the marketing team in Europe as well as working as an account manager.
Are you a lifer? If yes, how do you see your career panning out over the next 20/30/40 years?
I absolutely see myself staying at Lubrizol. It’s a fantastic company to work for. I am not sure what role I will be in but will certainly be something where I can use my creativity, marketing, and communication skills.
How has the industry changed since you started? There has been an increased focus on electrification and sustainability. This has been a major shift in priorities for many companies.
What do you like/dislike about the industry? And what would you change if you could? I really enjoy working in the industry, as it provides a lot of opportunities, especially due to all the different business areas. When you think of lubricants and additives, for example, what I love about my role is taking the complex challenges and how you can simplify and bring the challenge / technology to life. I sometimes think the perception of the industry can be misinterpreted and I would love to encourage more people to be interested in coming into this industry. There is a lot of opportunity with new
