bunker market where it was burnt as fuel on ships, or to support coal-powered power stations. With the closure of those unpopular power stations, we saw a new model was needed which followed the European drive towards a greener future.

In short, it underlines how far we have come in our journey when I can say our Danish re-refinery is not only almost 40% more carbon efficient than Processed Fuel Oil processes, but also helps to preserve a valuable finite resource being pumped back into industries such as automotive, agriculture, construction, retail and public transport.

But more than anything, the thriving re-refinery is also a marker of our success for how, along with AVISTA Green, we are helping businesses to reduce their environmental impact and support their own sustainability goals. In our quest to help close the circular economy loop, it cannot be underestimated how base oil re-refining can save carbon emissions and ultimately reduce the generation of waste.

invested in the recycling of used transformer oil which is utilised to insulate high-voltage items such as transformers, capacitors, switches and circuit breakers. This has been another step forward in our growth plans as both Cleveland Industrial Recycling and Hydrodec work closely with a large US energy provider, recycling the used transformer oil back into a useable product.

Entering new sectors and delivering acquisitions which provide green-related benefits are just another chapter in our story. It’s important to me that we continually position ourselves as industry leaders when it comes to sustainability and to stay one step ahead of our competitors.

To do that, we are currently undergoing our own carbon cutting initiative which will help us achieve our carbon net-zero target by 2050. The first stage has already been completed, outlining in detail our existing carbon emissions and our road map for net-zero achievement. We will shortly be taking steps to launch our first ever annual report which covers how we are performing against our objectives.

Constant business improvement Overall, I am delighted to have this opportunity to share just a small but important chapter of our story, and how we are delivering a business which is an innovative, sophisticated and sustainable example of success within the circular economy model.

I believe our drive to do things differently and deliver on our promises highlights our competitive advantage, underlines our vision to be a UK leader in achieving environmentally sustainable waste management practices, and signifies the importance we place on delivering a true, recycled and quality product.

Fit for growth, and for the future Looking ahead, our global growth continues to be through a green agenda-led strategy, where aside from our re-refinery and organic growth, our acquisitions of like-minded businesses have been another cornerstone.

With the 2022 acquisitions of Cleveland Industrial Recycling and Hydrodec of North America, Greenbottle, our parent company, has heavily
