Annual General Meeting April 2019, Hotel Divani Caravel, Athens, Greece
‘Olympic Performance’ – Let the Games Begin
The most important industry event for grease professionals is the ELGI Annual General Meeting. This year it will take place from 13 - 16 April 2019 at the Divani Caravel Hotel, central Athens, Greece.
Every element of the ELGI AGM is outstanding. Spotlights are on the Working Group Meetings, the Speakers, the Technical Presentations, the Gala Dinner with Entertainment, the Tour at the end of the conference and the Exceptional Networking Opportunities.
Terry Dicken, ELGI’s Chairman will open the ceremony on Monday 15 April. Following on from Terry, the Chairs of each Working Group will deliver their findings from the previous day’s meetings.
The theme for this year’s AGM is ‘Olympic Performance: Let the Games Begin’ looking at new trends in industrial grease lubrication, for example: Greases for electrical engineering; High speed – low load; Low speed – high load; New trends in environmental- friendly lubrication; REACH – one year after the finishing line.
The Parade of Nations from an international line-up starts with the first of 15 technical papers: ‘PAO Blending Matrix and PAO Grease Advantages’ and finishes with the last paper ‘The Mythology of Grease – Fact or Fiction?’
There are six Working Groups (WGs) with five predominantly active. The sixth WG, European REACH Grease Thickener Consortium, Escrow Foundation (ERGTCEF) is an on-going project. The WGs continue to gain in popularity with a regular turnout for each group at around 80. Attendance is of paramount importance. You will gain insight, knowledge and an opportunity to be able to influence the grease

industry. They will take place on Sunday 14 April, and they are open to members and non-members.
Throughout the four days of the ELGI meeting, attendees will have many opportunities to network with delegates from more than 30 countries.
The Ultimate Greek Night. In keeping with the colours of the Greek flag, the theme for the Gala Dinner is blue and white. There will be a tour to the Vineyards and Wine Museum at Domaine Costa Lazaridi. The ELGI Board is looking forward to sharing with you a glass or three!
Five predominantly active WGs: Food Grade Lubricants, Grease Particle Evaluation, Railway Lubricants, Bio-Based Greases and Test Methods & Rheology.
The Olympic Rings symbol is composed of five equal sized interlaced rings representing the union of the five continents. In a similar way, the ELGI AGM’s Working Groups represent the union of international grease champions,
passionate about their speciality.
ELGI’s 12th Annual General Meeting was held in Athens in 2000. More than 220 delegates attended the event at that time. This year, ELGI’s Board anticipates a significantly higher number of attendees when it returns to this classical city.
On closing, I would like to comment that the ELGI AGM is an exceptional event and I strongly recommend that you attend. This does come with a warning though. Once you have experienced an ELGI AGM, you may find you are addicted and simply not be able to help yourself from attending every AGM in the future.
