All Round Chemical Resistance with TopChem 345 Gloves from Mapa
Mapa Spontex UK Ltd has launched TopChem 345 - the only glove on the market that provides chemical resistance to the 12 chemicals in the EN-374-3 annex and the 3 gases listed in the EN 943-2 standards. What makes TopChem 345 truly unique is that, unlike any other glove, it is made of a water soluble polymer, which means it is not degraded through contact with aqueous solutions.
TopChem 345 is a liquid-proof glove made of black PVA (polyvinylalcohol) over neoprene (polychloroprene) rubber with an internal cotton liner and natural latex rubber layer between the liner and the neoprene layer. Its specific advantages are superior chemical resistance against most of the solvents such as petroleum, aromatic and chlorinated solvents, ketones, esters, ethers and mixtures of solvents. High-quality cotton lining, together with curved fingers, contoured palm and smooth external surface provides good dexterity and excellent comfort for long duration jobs, while the gloves also benefit from a high mechanical resistance and longer working life thanks to the textile liner.
The gloves’ unique qualities make it ideal for handling and transporting chemicals as well as dealing with hazardous chemical emergencies and site decontamination. Other main fields of use include the printing industry, metal degreasing and stripping, manufacturing paints and varnishes, metal surface preparation (solvents), and resin and adhesive manufacturing.

Chevron Fuel and Marine Marketing launches drip oil analysis service
Chevron Fuel and Marine Marketing is planning to launch a new drip oil analysis service named DOT.FAST®, which will be available to marine customers in mid-2007.
DOT.FAST® comprises both onboard and onshore analysis of cylinder drip oil, enabling ship operators to optimise cylinder oil consumption as fuel oil quality varies. Operators can balance the acidity from the fuel with the alkalinity from the lubricant and minimize wear by changing the base number or adjusting the feed-rate of the cylinder oil. Too much oil can result in excessive deposits whilst too little can cause wear on engine parts.
Roger Stubbs, Chevron Regional Manager Marine Lubricant Sales – Western Hemisphere said: “DOT.FAST® will mean that ship owners can manage their lubricant usage more efficiently, extend the life of their engines and achieve the maximum time between overhauls. Not only does this save them money but by using less lubricant, they are also doing their bit for the environment.”

To date, more than 6,000 samples from various customer sites have been tested and the launch of the DOT.FAST® service is supported by all the major engine builders. Independent test data received suggest that results from Chevron’s onboard Drip Oil Analyzer compare favourably with the results available from other onboard iron testing services.
The DOT.FAST® onboard Drip Oil Analyzer will be available at major ports worldwide with comprehensive testing services support available to customers who sign up to the service from Chevron’s laboratory at Ghent, Belgium, and Chevron’s marine sales account managers worldwide.
