Asako Yuzuki, Polly Barton (trans) Butter Fourth Estate, £14.99, 9780008511685 First published back in February 2024, the trade paperback edition of Butter has stuck around in the charts for over a year, with sales dropping below 2,000 units on only three occasions in that time. The story featuring serial-killer and chef Manako Kajii has proven popular in both indie bookshops and Waterstones – announced as the latter’s 2024 Book of the Year, helping boost its sales over Christmas to a peak of 34,586 copies.
