JOINED-UP THINKING T

his month’s issue of ERT is smarter than Einstein with a decent haircut and wearing a designer suit.

As the connected home is the greatest opportunity our industry has had to make money in years, we’ve dedicated the July/August edition to all things smart. We’ve asked technology experts to give us their views and advice on where the market for connected services and products is heading, and how retailers can make the most of the next wave of innovation. ERT has been championing the smart home for the past few years, but now connected products are becoming a part of everyday life. There has been an explosion of smart speakers – in an exclusive interview, Phil Moore, Deezer’s vice-president, northern and southern EMEA, tells

me how we’ll be listening to music in the future (pages 28-31). We’ve also spoken to ERT Award-winning indie Superfi, who, spurred on by our Turning Point initiative, decided they had to future-proof their business by embracing the smart home and attracting younger customers – their new flagship store in Camden, north London is a bold move for the retailer (see pages 46-48). Having chaired the judging panel for this

year’s ERT Awards, (page 4), it was heartening to see that several of the retailers who entered had used Turning Point as a incentive to revamp their business and diversify into new areas, such as the smart home. If you were in any doubt that the connected home is a massive opportunity, then just take a

look at the latest move by Amazon, (see page 5), which is now offering its own installation service. Get in now, before it’s too late, and beat them at their own game.
