3 EDITOR’S COMMENT

IT’S EASIER TO BE GREEN THAN YOU THINK

s this month’s issue of the magazine coincides with World Environment Day (June 5), we’ve decided to turn our attention to sustainability in the KBB sector.

Whether or not ‘green’ issues score highly on your personal agenda, many consumers now consider themselves climate-conscious and highlight sustainability as a key attribute they look for in the companies they deal with and the products they purchase.

So, if you haven’t already done so, now might

be the ideal time to consider implementing sustainable practices in your own business. The question is how? To answer this, we’ve devoted 12 pages to a special feature (pgs 31- 42), where we look at the strategies manufacturers, suppliers and retailers already have in place, and offer advice to those looking for help in taking a more sustainable approach themselves. If you’re still not convinced that it could pay off fi nancially, take a look at this month’s retailer profi le (pgs 66-68). George Robinson, founder of George Robinson Kitchens, tells us how he’s built a successful business out of a passion for sustainability.

Another retailer that is doing what it can to make sure everything it does has as little environmental impact as possible is Sheffi eld Sustainable Kitchens.

Not only can you catch managing director Rob Cole chatting about his ‘green’ strategy on Season Three of our award- winning kbbreview Podcast, we’ve also showcased one of the company’s fi nished projects (pgs 70-74) to highlight how you don’t have to compromise on style or quality to achieve an eco-friendly design.

As always, your views on these and any other industry-related issues are actively encouraged.

Now might be the time to consider implementing sustainable practices
