One of the biggest challenges for any installation is the weather. Come rain, wind or shine, the installation date can’t change once it’s confirmed. On the day that I went to help with this kitchen installation, it was the hottest day of the year, well over 80°C. This installation was being run by fitter, Sam Ashton, with his team

from Chapmans Building Company, who have installed countless kitchens for Searle and Taylor. The great thing about Intuo furniture is that it is very well-made, the cabinetry comes as expected and it is relatively simple to fit. However, because of the large island unit and worktop, the super-size refrigeration appliances that require specialist knowledge to install, plus the bespoke additions that I had designed, I brought my tools and joined the team to ensure all would go smoothly and to my exacting standards. In the searing heat, it took four fitters with two trollies to lift the single 3.1m piece of 80mm thick Dekton and successfully place it onto the island. We managed to attach the very large walnut table with half tapered leg to the end of the island in a perfect position straight after. Pocket doors can be tricky to install, but we specialise in designing them and the bespoke Intuo doors fitted very smoothly. Having attached the bronzed mirrored splashback to the interior of the gin cabinet, I just needed to reattach the Quooker Boiling water tap (complete with Cube system) to ensure it was plumbed in correctly beneath the worktop, I duly slid into the sink base unit with the relevant tools and that is the last I remember until I was pulled back out by my feet and brought round, because I fainted. Apart from my own unfortunate mishap, this installation went very well indeed. Sam and his team did a great job, as usual. Note to self: if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!
