S-51s. It measured 15 feet high and 12 feet wide and rode on routes approved by the State of Connecticut for oversized loads.
Farren International Supports Sikorsky Family Day 2017
Farren International, a global supplier of transportation and rigging services since 1959, recently lent its expertise to help another rotorcraft industry leader, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, celebrate Sikorsky Family Day. Sikorsky employees and their families experienced their day surrounded by four truly historic Sikorsky aircraft that Farren International brought to the occasion. The transport experts safely moved from the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, an S-51 to the festivities in Stratford. The aircraft was loaded on an air ride double-drop stretch trailer with special main gear cradles made for transporting
Farren International also crane loaded an S-59 at the museum and safely moved it to Stratford on an air ride Conestoga trailer designed and manufactured to transport aerospace fuselages and other large components.
Remembering the early days of Sikorsky when Vought and Sikorsky were part of United Aircraft Corporation, Farren International was also tasked to transport an F-4U Corsair from the Connecticut Air and Space Center. As with the S-51 transport, route surveys were completed, and special oversize permit requests were acquired to get the F-4U to the Family Day celebration. Likewise as with the S-51, several pilot cars and Connecticut state troopers escorted the very wide aircraft.
Also picked up at the the Connecticut Air and Space Center was an S-52/H05 Helicopter, which made the ride along with the F-4U in an Aerospace Conestoga trailer.
While all four historic aircraft were delivered safe and sound to the Family Day event, Farren International’s job was not finished. The company also safely and efficiently returned all aircraft back to their respective museums.
In addition, Farren International transported and rigged an S-97 simulator for Sikorsky Family Day. After attendees experienced the sim, Farren International rigged out and transported the simulator back to its home base, proving that Farren International not only goes the extra mile for its customers but also adds extra service along the way.
