Education Buildings Journal
“In this, the Year of Young People, the focus of the 2018 Education Buildings Scotland Exhibition & Conference, will be on all learning environments which support our world leading education system. The event, building on the success of last year, will see the coming together of industry and strengthen the public sector’s relationship with it. Good quality, well maintained and state of the art infrastructure is vital to ensuing we provide the very best opportunities in life for our children, young people and wider communities. I look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh on 21st & 22nd November.”
John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Government
Over the two days, the voice of the young people will also be represented by the Scottish Youth Parliament. Members will be there to join in the discussion and participate in the presentations and workshop sessions to ensure that their voice and points of view are heard and to infl uence any decision making.
As one of the highlights from last year’s event, we will be welcoming back representatives from West Calder High School. Views from the council, staff, and pupils will be explored, in addition to discussing how their new ways of learning have been successfully applied on a much larger scale within their new building.
There will be more informal workshops taking place over the two days, including looking at Early Years, locality and placemaking. Architecture & Design Scotland will be leading the latter.
Day two offers the ‘Technologies Transforming Learning’ session, where we will be hearing from staff and pupils from the Newbattle Digital Centre of Excellence at The University of Edinburgh, which is due to open to the public this summer.
