Foreword

A valuable resource for members Ian Hinitt CEng, FIHEEM – President, IHEEM

Welcome to the IHEEM Handbook 2019 – a comprehensive guide to the Institute, its staff, structure, governance, branches, some of its key educational and other events, and the many benefits of membership of the UK’s leading institute for the healthcare estates sector and healthcare engineering professionals. This handbook was originally published in 2018 to celebrate the Institute’s 75th Anniversary year, and proved to be very popular. I am sure it will remain a valuable resource of IHEEM’s work for many years to come. IHEEM today is a well-established and

highly respected source of engineering expertise and knowledge, and this handbook describes the work and functions of the Institute’s Technical Platforms, and the Registers of Authorising Engineers, and focuses on the importance of Continuous Professional Development in developing one’s career. This latter aspect will receive particular focus this year and next, as we develop our programme of providing quality opportunities for CPD and appropriate feedback to our members and registrants. During our 75th Anniversary year, a notable achievement was the continuing development and higher profile of our work on the Equality & Diversity agenda. IHEEM is committed to the professional and career development of all those involved in our sector, and regards itself as a fully inclusive organisation, and I trust you will support me as this work continues. A highlight of this year will be

Healthcare Estates, at which we are proud to host IFHE Europe for their Conference, bringing visitors from across the globe to the event. I look forward to seeing you in Manchester in October. Membership – and the contribution and input of members in many areas – is the lifeblood of an institute like IHEEM, and a key feature of this publication is a comprehensive directory of Company Affiliate Members, and the products, services, and expertise they offer – in all there are entries from over 220 organisations operating in a multitude of different fields. It is IHEEM’s hope that this handbook – which will be available in printed form at a wide range of events, and also accessible online, will provide an invaluable resource both for the Institute’s members, and for other professionals working in this fast- moving sector to learn more about IHEEM’s work and activities.
