Membership Categories The Institute welcomes into membership employees of both public and private healthcare providers, as well as those working in or with private sector engineering and consultancy firms and practices. Many members come from a non-engineering background such as architecture, construction, and facilities management. There is a place in IHEEM for all those


involved in the healthcare estates sector, and a category of membership to match your experience and qualifications. This is a brief summary of the current membership grades, typical job roles, and membership requirements.


Fellow Fellows of the Institute are typically Senior Professionals in the sector, whether an engineer or not, and who warrant this highest designation. Those in membership at this grade are entitled to use the designatory letters FIHEEM. To be elected as a Fellow you must meet the following requirements: Hold a first degree, and/or be already


registered with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer, and/or hold an equivalent membership with another relevant Professional Body, and have 5 years’ relevant healthcare experience and demonstrate appropriate competencies,
