Key figures to open each day The opening address on day one of the conference will be given by Dr Marion Lyons – senior medical officer, Health Protection, at the Welsh Government, while on day two, Neil Davies, director, Specialist Estates Services, at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, will explore ‘some of the key challenges facing NHS estates and facilities, the strategic response, and long-term sustainability’. Greg Markham, technical director at EMCOR UK, Mike Simmons, consultant in Public Health Microbiology at Public Health Wales, and Eddie McLaughlan, assistant director of Engineering, Environment, and Decontamination, at Health Facilities Scotland, will be the three conference chairs.

75th Anniversary dinner IHEEM 2018 takes place in the same week that IHEEM celebrates its 75th anniversary; the Institute was founded on 28 August 1943. To mark the occasion, a black-tie and evening dress formal dinner will be held on 30 August at the ‘five-star’ St David’s Hotel on the waterfront in Cardiff Bay. Celebrating the Institute’s heritage and innovation, and the work undertaken by members and partners across the decades, the evening will feature light entertainment and an after-dinner speaker.
IHEEM’s Architecture and Design of the Built Environment Technical Platform is seeking to recruit a further candidate to complement the current four members, particularly one with an NHS clinical, health planning, estates, or project director background.
Platform chair, Dr Manju Patel, said: “The collective aspiration of the Group is to bring about tangible benefits to the NHS built environment, and to support the effective delivery of changing clinical needs within an agile estate.
