INSTITUTE NEWS Electrical seminar in Leeds


Next month in Leeds the IHEEM Electrical Technical Platform will present a seminar focusing on the latest changes and requirements of Section 710 Medical Locations.


The one-day seminar, on 19 September, will be held at the city’s historic Thackray Medical Museum, which showcases the heritage of medicine and healthcare. The programme will feature six sessions delivered by members of the Platform and guests presenters, some of whom were involved in the writing of the guidance.


During the morning, Paul Harris, a Chartered Electrical engineer, independent consultant, and director of Harris Associates, will present on the background to and rationale for the guidance, including the 18th Edition changes, the identification and definitions of Medical Location groups, and Supplementary Equipotential Bonding. Mumtaz Farooqi, a technical manager at Bender UK, will present two sessions, the first looking at ‘Medical IT Systems in Medical Locations’, and the second, ‘Residual Current Monitoring and Monitoring Systems’.


The chair of the IET WRPC, Graham Kenyon, deputy chair, JPEL/64 Sub- Committee D – External Influences, will lead discussions on Electromagnetic Compatibility.


Paul Harris and Darren Griffiths, a qualified electrical design engineer, inspection and test engineer, and thermographer, and the MD of RS Earth, will jointly present the penultimate session, on ‘the Inspection and Testing
