‘Inherently flexible’ nature A permanent modular kitchen can help to reduce or even eliminate these problems, thanks to their inherently flexible nature. Under a contract rental agreement, the units and equipment are maintained, and the equipment within them can be updated and replaced if necessary. All our modular units can be moved to new sites, as dictated by footfall changes or building projects on site. You can use the flexibility of modular to re-examine your site. The nature of modular means you can rethink all your catering options. Modular allows you to decide where the best place on your site is to place a kitchen, rather than
simply finding anywhere in your building that can house a kitchen.
By choosing the perfect place for your modular kitchen, you can influence where visitors spend their time, and discourage them from congregating around patient areas. The freed-up internal space could be re-purposed to healthcare uses, enhancing the patient experience by reducing the distance they need to travel between treatments.
‘Better value’
At the same time that service changes and cost challenges are making modular more attractive, modular itself is delivering better value and a more dependable product. Modular construction is now as good as any permanent building, thanks to advancements in building technology.
For example, our permanent modular solutions, known as KitchenPods, have a structural guarantee of 15 years (five years longer than new-build housing), and a design life (or expected usable lifetime) of 60 years. They are no longer a ‘stop-gap’ or compromise option in comparison with more traditionally constructed buildings. In addition, each modular kitchen is made to order, and is a bespoke product that can be tailored to the user’s needs – in terms of size, equipment, and features. That gives you a perfectly targeted kitchen which can be installed in a matter of days, not months. This can be a cost- effective way of adding useful facilities, and also provides the opportunity to future-proof against cost rises, as PKL offers contract rental solutions on all its permanent modular solutions. We’ve installed permanent kitchens at hospitals such as The Friarage Hospital in North Yorkshire, and Beccles Hospital in Suffolk, which have fitted into the hospital estate perfectly thanks to their attractive finish.
Flexible
Modular buildings are easier than traditional solutions because they are quick to install, cheaper than building a completely new facility, and inherently flexible – even permanent modular buildings can be installed quickly and easily in difficult spaces that would go unused otherwise.
