HEALTH SECTOR NEWS Rockfon ceilings for health assessment clinic
Rockfon acoustic ceilings have been installed in a new ‘state-of-the-art’ health assessment clinic, Preventicum, in Central London, that offers ‘bespoke, in- depth health evaluation and diagnostics, including full-body scanning’. Sonnemann Toon Architects designed the interior ‘with a high-tech specification to give the feel of a luxury hotel’. Architect, Galina Borovikova, explained how Rockfon Mono Acoustic helped ‘create a sense of opulence’. She said: “It combines the elegance of a seamless ceiling with outstanding sound-absorbing qualities, which enhances the sleek interior, and ensures client privacy.” Rockfon Mono Acoustic is said to offer ‘a unique solution for ceiling design’; it combines high acoustic performance with a smooth, white, seamless surface. Rockfon said: “The Class A sound absorption of our monolithic ceiling significantly decreases echo and reverberation levels, for a relaxed environment where confidential communication between doctor and client is optimised.”

partner, Panarc Interior Solutions, to deliver the finished ceilings. The latter’s Business Development manager, Daniel Davies, explained: “We’ve always worked well with Rockfon, and find its products are easy to fit and always look good. For this project acoustics were a key factor, along with visual appearance and cleanability for the medical areas. Rockfon fitted the brief perfectly.” The ceiling components were supplied by CCF Harmondsworth.
The product’s Class A sound absorption, and the stringent hygiene characteristics required in the medical assessment rooms, saw Rockfon
The non-magnetic properties of Rockfon’s Chicago Metallic Alu 740 aluminium grid saw it chosen for the Rockfon Blanka dB 46 ceiling in the MRI suite. The ceiling helps prevent the sound generated by the two MRI scanners disturbing the radiographers and travelling to neighbouring rooms. In the ‘open and light’ waiting room and circulation areas, the ‘smooth, deep matt, super white’ surface of Rockfon Blanka helps create bright, comfortable environments. “The ceilings’ 87% light reflection and 99% diffusion improve the lighting conditions utilising natural daylight as much as possible, and contribute to energy savings,” Rockfon explained, adding: “All our ceiling products are manufactured from stone wool. This makes them non-combustible; they achieve the highest reaction to fire rating, A1. They are also durable, cost- effective to maintain, and enhance any interior design. “
Enclosures save time and simplify maintenance Static Systems Group has introduced
‘new and improved’ enclosures for its Aspire SmartSync ‘world-class wireless’ nurse call solution.
The new SmartFit enclosures incorporate a back mounting plate which fixes directly to the wall, while the front plate simply slides and snaps into a locked position. The enclosures can be easily taken apart to access batteries, ‘saving time during installation, and making maintenance much easier’. Static Systems said: “The new
contemporary and aesthetically pleasing design of the SmartFit enclosures mirrors that of the Aspire SmartSync patient hand unit and, like the hand unit, has been designed with infection control in mind. The enclosures’ design and components are similar to wired systems,
providing familiarity in operation and functionality for staff and other users.” Chris Turner, the company’s Commercial director, said: “With more widespread
adoption of wireless nurse call solutions, and rising demand for our Aspire SmartSync wireless range, we revisited the original design of our enclosures to make enhancements that would benefit installers and end- users. We’re confident that
the new enclosures will generate a lot of positive feedback when we unveil them at this month’s Healthcare Estates 2018 exhibition.”
A cutting-edge solution to ‘reverberation woes’ AG, a supplier of hard
landscaping, building, and structural pre-cast products, describes its Alphacrete Acoustic as ‘a cutting-edge, sound- absorbing masonry block with outstanding room and building acoustic performance’.
The company explained: “Alphacrete Acoustic was expertly developed to offer higher levels of sound absorption than standard masonry blocks, meaning that it effectively reduces airborne noises
and excess reverberation. Additionally, the flutter echoes and standing waves produced by reflective parallel wall surfaces will be significantly reduced.” AG says Alphacrete
Acoustic ‘offers a solution to those tasked with dramatically improving speech intelligibility and acoustic performance in conventional constructions where reverberation causes problems’. Independently tested by Sound Research Laboratories to prove it meets the acoustic
performance standards for a Class D sound absorber according to BB93:2015, it is also ‘extremely strong and durable’, and ‘non-combustible’. The blocks do not require plastering, painting, or ‘the addition of the expensive sound- absorbing wall panels typically required to achieve Part ‘E’ compliance with standard block or brick constructions’. The block is available in two distinct finishes, Athena and Corinthian. Athena is smooth and stronger in colour, while Corinthian ‘has added texture and natural colour variances’.
