Retiring Council members’ contribution acknowledged
IHEEM’s 2018 AGM (see also HEJ – November 2018) saw three retiring members of Council – Mark Richards, Steve Batson, and Wayne Carr – thanked for their contribution and support of the Institute by outgoing President, Pete Sellars, who at the conclusion of the meeting handed over the chain of office to his successor, Ian Hinitt. The meeting commenced with the reading and approval of the Minutes of the 2017 AGM. No questions were received, and the Minutes were taken as read, and agreed as a true and accurate record, and signed by Greg Markham, a Council member and IHEEM Past-President who chaired the AGM in the absence at the
time of an Institute CEO. The Annual Report and audited Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2017 were then considered. Graham Hardman suggested that the Institute’s current reserves be used to employ a training officer to assist in setting up sponsorships to further the careers of apprentices, and particularly tradespeople, ‘with good experience in their field, but with a lack of academic qualifications’. Pete Sellars acknowledged the proposal, and said he would support the suggestions made. With no further questions, the 2017 Annual Report and Financial Statements were proposed, seconded, and unanimously approved. The next Agenda item was to approve nominations for the seats on Council. Greg Markham advised that two Council members – himself (South West) and Chris James (Southern Branch) had offered themselves for reappointment, three – Mark Richards (East Midlands Branch), Steve Batson (Yorkshire Branch), and Wayne Carr (North East Branch), had retired, and there were three new appointments – Alan Spraggon (North East Branch), Bill Millar (East Midlands), and Alison Ryan (Yorkshire Branch). All seats were uncontested, and came with the recommendation and approval of Council. The nominations were unanimously approved, after which Greg Markham read out the list of all the Council members for the next 12 months.
In addition to then thanking the three Council members who had retired – two of whom, Steve Batson and Mark Richards (Wayne Carr was not at the meeting), received a commemorative glass award, Pete Sellars welcomed Alan Spraggon,
Alison Ryan, and Bill Millar to Council, and thanked Chris James and Greg Markham for agreeing to serve a second term. There was unanimous approval for the reappointment of chartered accountants, Morris Crocker, as the Institute’s auditors for the coming year.
The final Agenda Item, Item Five, saw Greg Markham provide background on six Special Resolutions set out in the September 2018 HEJ, all relating to changes in wording in IHEEM’s Articles of Association. There were no questions, and the motion to approve the resolutions was carried unanimously. The President then thanked those who had attended, and formally closed the

AGM, before passing the chain of Presidential office to incoming President, Ian Hinitt. He in turn thanked Pete Sellars for his hard work and contribution, and presented him with his Past-President’s Medal. The new President then gave a brief closing speech outlining his ‘vision’ for IHEEM for the next two years.
