Early February deadline for conference submissions

The Call for Presentations for this year’s Healthcare Estates conference is now open, following a flagship IHEEM annual event last October, which the organiser, Step Exhibitions, says saw a record attendance over the two days in Manchester. The exhibition attendance on Day 1 set a new record, with nearly 2,600 attending the exhibition and conference, and a further 483 attending the awards dinner in the evening. Day 2 at the exhibition and conference saw over 1,700 attend.

Post-event feedback

Event director, Steve Webb, said: “Post- event, delegates, speakers, and chairs, are asked what they would like the conference to cover to fully meet their learning and professional objectives, with the intention of actioning as many of the suggestions as possible. The suggestions for 2019 are, as ever, many and varied; the wide range of professionals that visit Healthcare Estates means the subject matter needs to be all- encompassing. Suggestions for this year include Big Data, advances in the DH model of care, Brexit, renewables, fire safety and cladding, waste management, compliance software, funding options, and the Model Hospital. Input from the healthcare estates management community is always welcome; please get in touch to tell us what you would like your conference to cover in 2019 – visit https://tinyurl.com/y7a6wktj and complete the online form.”

International involvement Taking place from 8-9 October, and reflecting the IFHE’s involvement, the 2019 Healthcare Estates programme will have ‘a truly international aspect’ to it, with presentations from across the 14 member countries of IFHE Europe. The four parallel conference streams will cover: Strategy and Leadership, Planning, Design, and Construction, Engineering and Facilities Management, and – new for this year – ‘Innovation’. Conference director, Victoria Emerton, said: “Submissions are invited from all those involved in the funding, design, construction, management, and maintenance of healthcare buildings, for content-led presentations on the many topics that fit within these themes, with the emphasis on peer-to-peer learning. “Our goal will be to make Healthcare Estates 2019 a hub for international collaboration, to learn lessons from fellow estates professionals from other

countries, and to share ideas and best practice’.

The deadline for conference paper submissions is 1 February. Submissions are evaluated on the basis of ‘quality, originality, and currency’.

Exhibition’s new HVAC area Of the 2019 exhibition, Steve Webb said: “We have a host of new ideas, with, for example, a new area incorporating HVAC, which will have its own dedicated theatre, as well as our popular ‘free’ theatres covering: Infection Control & Water; Design & Construction; Energy & Sustainability; Fire & Security; Facilities Management, and our Training Clinic, specifically for organisations working with apprentices, and developing the skills of younger people coming into the healthcare sector. “With Brexit bound to be a major talking point, we are also working closely with NHSI, which will have its own sessions, and with the IFHE, which will have an international representation for the first time at the event.”

Companies wishing to exhibit will also benefit from a brand new layout, with the main theatre where the plenary sessions take place relocated to the exhibition floor, allowing access for more attendees. Paying delegates and invited guests will be able to hear the morning keynote presentations, while lunchtimes and the first-day drinks reception will see a series of presentations and awards – including one for the best stand design and marketing campaign. The 2019 conference, meanwhile, will move to the Cobden Rooms at the front of the venue, to allow for more interactive streams, and afford easier access for delegates, and ‘a better flow’ around the show.
