HEALTHCARE WATER SAFETY

have had an impact. At that time, the guidelines were revised to require the creation of Water Safety Groups and Water Safety Plans. The purpose of the plans was to identify potential hazards, consider practical aspects, and detail appropriate control measures. Meanwhile, the Water Safety Groups were planned to be multidisciplinary groups formed to undertake the commissioning and development and ongoing management of a Water Safety Plan.

Matt Whiting explained: “What we’re seeing now is a more holistic approach to water management, with estates teams asking as much about service as they are about product. I think the guidelines have been influential here. They have encouraged people to think not only about how they will achieve standards and guidelines when new products are installed, but also how they can ensure that they do this year after year.”

‘More dynamic’ relationships It is Matt Whiting’s view that this is creating ‘more dynamic’ relationships between manufacturers and users, as estates teams and Water Safety Groups are now ‘more welcoming about working together to avoid risks’. He said: “Historically, decisions were based on product and what warranty it came with. That’s still important of course, but that’s just the starting point now. The conversation is now more about how we can provide compliance and peace of mind. Estates teams are focusing on what they want to achieve, and asking us as a manufacturer about how we can contribute to those goals. There is increasing recognition in the value of

working together long term, as we know our products better than anyone, and can advise on how to get optimum performance from them.

“It helps to ensure that products are performing as they should be, achieving duty of care demands, but it can also prolong product life and improve energy and water efficiency. That in turn will bring cost savings.”

Eoin McQuone agrees: “Preventative maintenance to help the facilities teams at hospitals deliver according to the standards is changing for the better. If you’re going to maintain TMV3 valves according to the standards, that will involve a lot of work. Hospitals don’t always have the resource they can dedicate to that task, and that can potentially create problems. We can take

that off their hands, and, because we’re experts in TMVs, we can do that more quickly and efficiently.”

Service benefits

Perhaps little wonder then that Rada has invested in service to the same high level of its products, as Matt Whiting explains. “Over many years,” he said, “Rada has become recognised for the quality of the products we offer and the innovation and thinking we have brought to water controls. We have set ourselves the same high standards with our service offer. We’re not just about repairing and replacing products, but rather about working in partnership with our customers to develop a plan unique to their premises. That means diagnosing problems and putting forward solutions
