IHEEM’s professional feedback on national EFM guidance
IHEEM is now providing professional and technical feedback to NHS England and NHS Improvement on the re- development of national estates and facilities management standards and guidance.
The Institute has developed a set of internal protocols that allow its head office to commission its Technical Platforms (TPs), via the Technical Platform Committee chair, to provide detailed comment on draft Health Building Notes (HBNs) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), which will then be uploaded as the Institute’s formal response directly onto the FutureNHS Collaboration Platform. Pete Sellars, IHEEM’s CEO, said: “This is a unique opportunity for IHEEM to have direct input into the national standards for our profession. As part of our 5-Year Business Plan, we have committed to supporting the Future Standards Working Group in the redevelopment of HBNs and HTMs. We will also be working in partnership with Archus to establish a

Brandon Medical hosts Yorkshire Branch AGM
The Yorkshire Branch’s latest meeting – its 2020 AGM – was hosted by Brandon Medical at the company’s Visitor Centre in Morley, Leeds, on 5 March, with around 20 professionals representing a cross- section of estates personnel and healthcare suppliers attending. The event, writes Branch chair, Chris Davies CEng, MIHEEM (pictured), head of Estates at Calderdale and Huddersfield Solutions, comprised two areas of focus – a tour of Brandon Medical’s ‘mock’ operating theatre, ICU, and GP showrooms, and the Branch Annual General Meeting. The AGM, which was chaired by Chris
Davies, saw current committee member roles and responsibilities confirmed. The Branch says that it welcomes new committee branch member applications. The meeting then focused on forthcoming event strategy, with agreement that an event in each region of Yorkshire would benefit members from across the region. Event concepts proposed and discussed included: n West Yorkshire – a seminar on automated compliance in collaboration with IHEEM’s Architecture and Design of the Built Environment (ADBE) Technical Platform and the University of Huddersfield.

Members of the IHEEM Yorkshire Branch held their AGM at Brandon Medical’s Morley headquarters, and enjoyed a tour of the company’s Visitor Centre.
n South Yorkshire – A proposal by Rob McCrea and Wayne Badkin of Medical Gas Services to hold a Medical Gas safety course at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
n North Yorkshire – A session on apprenticeships, and a visit to the new decontamination facility at York Teaching Hospitals.
The second part of the event saw a presentation given in Brandon Medical’s simulated operating theatre focusing on the company’s Medipower medical IT power supply equipment. The theatre at Brandon’s Morley headquarters also features the company’s Medicontrol range, represented by the Medicontrol iTCP Intelligent Theatre Control Panel – said to be the market’s only IoT (Internet of Things)-integrated product of its type.
While the concept of an ‘integrated theatre’ is not new, Brandon says that only its Entoli digital OR system is able to capture image feeds from any medical AV source, including endoscopy/ laparoscopy equipment, surgical microscopes, PACs, and ‘other image sources’, and ‘make the images available where users need them to be’. The ‘streamlined product’ also has a ‘minimal hardware footprint’, and is Medically Certified. Brandon’s Symposia integrated digital AV system, meanwhile, can connect medical professionals to a range of audio-visual resources ‘which can be accessed immediately from any location’. All audio and video communications can be two-way between all locations. For further information on all IHEEM Yorkshire Branch activity, email Chris Davies, at:
