Special guest
“I must add,” said Daniela Pedrini, “that we had a very special guest in engineer, Gaetano Bettenzoli, who attended the first congress 50 years ago in Rome, where the Federation was established. He had some interesting facts about, and anecdotes from, the original congress, and it was great to have the opportunity
A ‘virtual’ ceremony marking the IFHE’s 50th anniversary.
to hear from one of the key people involved in that maiden event. “We also had workshops running parallel to the presentations, which were a great opportunity for our invaluable sponsors and stakeholders to reach out to our delegates from around the world, and vice versa. The feedback on these was really positive; they proved an engaging and educational, as well as a fun, experience.
“The awards section was one of the final chapters of our congress, with a large number of great projects competing to win our prestigious awards – ranging from our traditional International Building Award, to the Climate Change and Sustainability of Healthcare Award, and the new Student Competition Award – ‘Healthcare Engineering – Global Climate Action and Energy Requirements’. All attracted some fantastic entries, and it was a challenge for our juries to choose the winners from some really impressively innovative projects.
“The final element in the Congress,” Daniela Pedrini explained, “was a celebration of the IFHE’s 50th anniversary, with music from our Spanish colleague, engineer, Joaquin Teruel Ortega. All in all, the 26th IFHE Congress was a huge success, and we could have never predicted the level of interest, the outreach, the efficiency and effectiveness of the technology, the relevance of the topics in the current – immensely challenging – global healthcare landscape, and the consistently high standard of presentations. As IFHE President, I’m hugely proud to have been a part of this, and, of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the IFHE Exco, the skills and expertise of our professional congress organisers, (Events srl Congress & Communication), the expertise and contribution of our speakers, and the wide range of participants across sectors and continents who – although unable to travel – made this event a truly global congress.”
