IHEEM and HEFMA launch joint Workforce Strategy
IHEEM, in partnership with HEFMA, has produced a new Workforce Strategy for healthcare engineering and estates and facilities professionals.
Published on the organisations’ respective websites on 12 March 2021, Future Leaders – Healthcare Estates & Facilities Management Joint Workforce Strategy, sets out a number of key long- term objectives to support all members in their career development across the many and varied roles within the sector. Supporting and developing the healthcare engineering and estates and facilities management workforce remains a priority for both IHEEM and HEFMA. The commitment to support the development and career progression of its members, together with encouraging the next generation of engineers and efm leaders, is a key theme in the IHEEM 5 Year Business Plan. It is also one of the priorities of the Institute’s new President, Paul Fenton.
The new joint document is the first stage towards developing a long-term strategy that will be underpinned by several programmes and initiatives that will support the members of both organisations to develop and progress to meet their own personal aspirations, in tandem with meeting the challenges of a rapidly growing and evolving healthcare built environment. The strategy focuses on four key areas which underpin the main objectives, as shown in Figure 1.
Jonathan Stewart, HEFMA National Chair, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to draw on the combined skills, knowledge, and passion, of all of us in the HEFMA and IHEEM families, and also our other valued partners and supply chain colleagues. Together we can drive this workforce development initiative for the future of healthcare facilities management. We can influence and support the NHS and wider healthcare providers to ensure that the next generation of estates and facilities professionals
becomes the diverse and capable resource needed to underpin the future of world- class patient care that the UK is noted for.” IHEEM is also developing additional ‘offers’ for its membership that align to the strategy, and form part of the
