INFECTION CONTROL
The silver ions act as a layer of protection against germs, disrupting them at a cellular level, and thus destroying them. The DDC macerators that feature antimicrobial technology harness our MicrobeSafe+ technology embedded in the surface material, which will keep on working month after month, year after year. When one considers that the
average piece of sluice room equipment could be on site for at least seven years, such long-lasting properties are key. While other antimicrobial coatings may well lose their efficacy over time, the silver ions in the MicrobeSafe+ system not only stop or reduce the DNA of the microorganisms’ cells’ ability to replicate, but also destroy or damage the cell membrane, and stop or reduce enzyme production. The technology will kill bacteria whether they are gram-positive (with one plasma membrane), or gram- negative (with two). The silver ions will penetrate the peptidoglycan wall regardless of its thickness, and disrupt the nucleoid DNA, killing the bacteria, but the process is safe for people, animals, and plants, and a concentration as low as one part per billion of silver ions will do the job.
The HYGENEX Recoat Antimicrobial Protector system is a water-based, quick-drying coating that incorporates silver ion technology to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
