EXHIBITION PREVIEW | K2022 MATERIALS

Right: BASF says its Ultramid Ccycled PA compound provides a robust and safe material solution for Schneider Electric’s Miniature Circuit Breaker Resi9 for residential applications

Avient will be showing its breakthrough PCR Colour Prediction Service for polyolefins and PET resins. The PCR Colour Prediction Service helps brand owners understand what colours are achievable based on the amount of PCR used, using sophisticated technology to determine if colours are feasible in a new application. This internally-developed solution also calculates how much PCR content can be added to an existing application without affecting its signature colour. The group will also show its newly-engineered polymer solutions geared toward improving the sustainability of automotive applications. Firstly, two additional grades have been added to the Re- Sound REC TPE portfolio, both formulated with polyvinyl butyral (PVB) recycled from automotive glass. Also announced are two new Edgetek PKE polyketone (PK) grades with non-halogen flame retardants. Applications for reSound REC TPEs include automotive exterior and under- hood components, while Edgetek PKE NHFR formulations are designed for EV components. www.avient.com

BASF says its K2022 theme is “Go!Create – Welcome to Our Plastics Journey,” consists of three phases which represent the lifecycle of plastics: make, use, and recycle. Martin Jung, President Performance Materials, says it will exhibit numerous co-crea- tion projects with partners and customers from industries like automotive, construction, E&E, packaging and consumer products. “These projects range from products that have net-zero or low Product Carbon Footprints to new products made from recycled raw materials to conserve fossil raw materials,” he says.

Another focus will be on digital and data-driven value chain models to help customers with the sustainability agenda. In this area, BASF has introduced a digital application to calculate the CO2 emissions of around 45,000 BASF sales products.

It will show several examples of plastics being performance materials for sustainability: from safe and durable polyamides for high-voltage compo- nents within the e-mobility charging infrastructure to enabling a green miniature circuit breaker for the E&E business that uses a 100% recycled PA 6 based compound.

BASF will host a series of daily Creator Talks at 38 INJECTION WORLD | September 2022

its stand. These talks will be announced on BASF’s K 2022 website and on social media ahead of K 2022, and will feature experts from different fields who will discuss solutions to the most pressing challenges their industries are facing. Topics range from digital simulation solutions to charging infrastructure and recycling solutions. www.plastics.basf.com

Benvic says PVC compounds remain its historical product core, as the newly-launched ProVinyl range of PVC compounds attests. But at K2022, show visitors will also see on Benvic’s stand a reworked and rebranded second strand of materials – largely polyolefin-based polymer technology for the challenges of complex applications. The third leg of the Benvic portfolio at K2022 involves polymer recyclates and biopolymeric materials. Benvic’s French subsidiary Ereplast is helping drive a growing number of solutions in recycled PVC grades. Benvic’s Plantura product lines are a range of bio-based and/or compostable polymers for the development of successful eco-designed products.

Benvic Medical will also

provide K show visitors with options in a range of medical polymers and processing technologies.

At a pre-K2022 press event in June, Borealis introduced its Cascade Model for circularity in polyolefins. Christopher McArdle, Circular Econo- my VP, said the group will invest in every stage of this production-use-recycling model, taking in mechanically and chemically recycled plastics as well as bio-based plastics. In injection moulding, a current example of the

Borealis sustainability approach is a collaboration with Paccor and ice cream company Froneri in Finland. Froneri’s new Aino packaging tubs and lids are moulded in Bornewables PP from Borealis, with renewable feedstock certified by mass balance accounting under the ISCC Plus scheme. Production involves in-mould labelling decoration, which makes the monomaterial packaging 100% recyclable. The renewable material is used as a highly efficient drop-in solution without any further modifications required to the partners’ manufactur- ing and packaging lines. www.borealisgroup.com
