Dr Boy has unveiled Moulding Assist, an intelligent assistance software programme that detects defects that arise in the injection moulding process then assists the user in identifying and eliminating the issue. The software programme can identify a range of defects such as streaks, dimen- sional deviation, gloss issues, inclusions or damage to the part.
Defect type is displayed as user selectable

parameters in real-time, Smart Weight Control can lower the number of defective parts. Data from a real time part weight scale can be fed back into the AI system to provide greater precision to weight control. LS Mtron says the new developments add to its
suite of Industry 4.0 machine capabilities, which include its Smart Data Interfaces, Smart Mold Recognition, Smart Monitoring and Smart Produc- tion control and Smart Equipment control. Engel has added a new iQ hold control to its
lineup of smart assistance systems which is part of its inject 4.0 programme. The new iQ hold control, to be introduced at the upcoming K show, auto- matically determines the optimum holding pres- sure time, which can help process technicians achieve significant time savings. Holding pressure time is typically determined empirically and configured individually after mould set-up, says Engel. Determining what is known as the sealing point takes time and consumes raw material since several parts need to be moulded and analysed to arrive at an optimum part. IQ hold eliminates the need for production personnel to produce and analyse numerous parts in a quality control lab, which saves both time and raw materials. IQ hold analyses both mould breathing and the plasticising screw position process values as the basis for automatically calculating holding pressure time. It then suggests the optimum holding pressure time through Engel’s CC300 machine controller. The optimal holding pressure time can be determined after a few moulding cycles. Once the set-up technician has confirmed the value, production with iQ hold can begin. Operators can adjust process parameters at the push of a button in case of a material batch change. The automati- cally adjusted holding pressure time may bring additional efficiencies by setting the holding time lower than the set holding pressure time, reducing cycle time and energy requirements.

categories and contain graphical illustrations stored in the software for comparison. The software generates a step-by-step solution that remedies the process or production problem causing the defect. Each step of the suggested solution is created based on answers the program assigns to questions. The most frequent answers to the questions are provided to the user as a step in the solution process. The selected corrective measures can be
initiated directly into the ongoing manufacturing process. Setting pages of the machine control are directly displayed. When defect-free parts are being produced again the software adopts the successful strategy for future reference. The software can be used on any Boy machine
with its Procan Alpha 4 machine control. Solutions to the defect proposed by the software can be displayed directly at the machine control or on any mobile terminal or PC via an Internet browser. Boy Machines also developed a WiFi-Stick that
makes online access and digital support easier. The WiFi-Stick can integrate any Boy injection press that has a Procan Alpha 4 controller to a communication network that has internet access. The WiFi stick allows for wireless access to a network, eliminating a more time consuming and complex wired network connection. Boy says network integration with the WiFi stick is simple, through a DHCP router. When the wireless connection is made and permissions in the machine control are granted, a user can connect immediately to Boy’s customer service for remote technical support through virtual network computing or programming environment. The WiFi stick can also connect to a network through a hotspot of an internet capable smart- phone or mobile device.
