K2022 MATERIALS | EXHIBITION PREVIEW
Injection moulders’ guide to 2022 Part 1: Materials
The world’s largest, most international plastics trade fair opens next month, in Dusseldorf in Germany. K2022 will host the latest innovations in plastics materials, machinery and services. However, it’s a huge event that’s best approached with a plan: our pre-event coverage will help you get the most from your time there. In this issue, we look at some of the planned introductions in thermoplastic resins, compounds, masterbatch and other materials that are likely to interest injection moulding companies. Over the next six pages you can find details on new products and portfolio expansions being launched at K2022 by leading suppliers in the global plastics industry. In our next issue, we will present details of new machinery, covering injection moulding machines, ancillary equipment, hot runners, mould components, plus analytic tools to optimise production. Despite the problems of the recent
past, K2022 will still be a big show. The previous event in 2019 attracted 3,330 exhibitors – up 1% compared to 2016. Visitor numbers, at just over 224,000, were down about 3% on the highest
ever figure in 2016. In 2019, slowing markets were putting the brakes on the plastics sector, and machine sales had begun to decline. After the last three years, it seems almost miraculous that K2022 is even taking place. Those who attend exhibitions have become accustomed to event cancellations and postpone- ments – Chinaplas being a notable example. However, vaccination programmes have overcome the worst of Covid, and measures taken by Messe Dusseldorf – such as fitting HEPA filters across the fairground – will reassure those who may be nervous about congregating in such a crowded space. Unfortunately, the economic picture is not booming. VDMA, which repre- sents German machinery manufactur- ers, is forecasting growth of 0-2% across its members this year – having earlier predicted growth of 5-10%. Despite this, K will remain a technology and materials showcase where business is done – whatever the market conditions. If you are planning to attend the show but are yet to finalise your travel and accommodation, it is not too late.
But you should act fast. There are some useful weblinks at the foot of this page and plenty more in the article in our August edition that may prove helpful. The Injection World and AMI magazines team will be at the show gathering information for our post- event coverage in the November/ December edition. We will also be reporting on the latest news and innovations as they happen via our @ PlasticsWorld feed on Twitter. If you want to be sure you keep in touch with developments, join the more than 23,000 people already following us. You may also be able to catch up with our editors and sales team on the AMI stand at the show – you can find us on Stand C11 in Hall 7. We will have information about our magazines, conferences, databases, consulting services and North American and European expos. Some of our industry experts will also be available to help you with information on a variety of topics. You can learn more about this here.
