machine park, providing documentation of tasks and recommendations for the necessary tools. The MyConnect platform offers several ways to communicate to Sumitomo (SHI) Demag when a service request or remote help for troubleshooting is needed. MySupport 8/5 basic lets the user send a service request directly from the machine operating terminal, PC or mobile terminal as soon as a fault occurs, which prompts a company expert to directly connect to the network remotely and solve the problem quickly. MyApplictionExpert provides online support from the application technology department for common process adjustments, using a chat function, video or VNC connection. MyConnect 24/7 Premium offers online support seven days a week with a guaranteed response time of three hours from the time a problem is reported. The MySmartVision module provides the user with fully configured Smart Glasses on which the company’s service app is pre-installed. The user can communicate directly with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s service team and have requested documents sent directly into the glasses for viewing. Arburg unveiled an exhibition for its ArburgX-

World digital production platform at the Technol- ogy Days customer event in Lossburg, Germany in June. Visitors to Arburg’s HQ can find out more about the topics of Smart Machine, Smart Produc- tion and Smart Services in the new permanent exhibition. Examples in the ArburgXWorld area include the AnalyticsCenter analysis tool, designed for the documentation of mould acceptance tests, trials and injection moulding processes. Another current example is the Customer Upload function in the MachineCenter app. The Gestica control system is the key platform

for Arburg’s digital injection moulding tools. Its intelligent assistants bring added value in terms of more efficient workflows, shorter cycle times and increased profitability. Arburg says one “outstand- ing” example is the AXW Control FillAssist which enables a filling simulation directly on the control system and can reduce the set-up time by more than 40%. The newest tool, AXW Control CycleAssist, analyses the programmed cycle sequence to ultimately reduce cycle times. With this feature, output can be quickly increased by tens of thou- sands of parts per year, says Arburg. AXW Control MeltAssist recognises the built-in cylinder module via a chip and can automatically calculate param- eters such as utilisation of the plasticising unit and dwell times. AXW Control EnergyAssist can help reduce the energy required for heating the cylinder module and mould by around 30%.

Arburg’s ALS host computer system is an impor- tant digital tool from Arburg. One of the core tasks of this MES is the collection and analysis of produc- tion data in real time. Connection to the ArburgX- World customer portal can be established via the ALS Dashboard app, which can be used to docu- ment the production processes in detail and clearly. Arburg has enhanced its telecoms provision in a

deal with Deutsche Telekom to provide a 5G campus network at its Lossburg site. The facility benefits from highspeed and stable coverage via the public 5G network, while mission-critical data traffic from injection moulding machines is sepa- rated by a virtual private network and can also be prioritised. The 5G campus network enables Arburg to test innovative applications for its own produc- tion needs, and in the Customer Centre injection moulders from various sectors, such as the automo- tive and packaging industries or medical technol- ogy, can test digital manufacturing concepts. South Korea-based injection moulding machine

supplier LS Mtron has launched a new AI-based smart injection moulding system comprised of an AI Molding Assistant that reduces the time for stabilising an initial moulding set-up process through AI technology, and Smart Weight Control that prevents the production of defective moulded parts. The systems help molders achieve improved part quality, higher productivity, reduce costs and faster deliveries. The AI Molding Assistant is designed to learn

the parameter settings that bring about optimal conditions when setting up the initial moulding process for a new product. Injection moulding setup is typically executed by a skilled moulding engineer. “Since the time required to establish an initial process and the best part quality depends on operator proficiency, it can be difficult to set and repeat the process conditions optimised for
