characteristics of oil used in hydraulic machines as an indicator of imminent damage. In this option, additional measurement sensors for monitoring two relevant oil parameter groups are used. A particle monitor continuously records the number and size of particles contained in the fluid, follow- ing a quality standard ISO 4406 format, which is displayed as an actual value or trend through the machine. A warning or alarm limit generates an error message which enables the machine to be stopped, allowing technicians to search for the root cause(s) before the particles cause damage to hydraulic components. A second measuring device detects the physical properties of the oil, such as the water content, permittivity and conductivity. The age of the lubricant can be determined based on the measured values and applying an internal algorithm. The condition of the oil can be ad- dressed before the chemical properties change. Accelerated oxidation, wear processes, cooler breaks or water ingress due to condensation can also be detected and remedied at an earlier stage. This continuous approach to oil monitoring is in contrast to conventional oil analysis which occurs at regular intervals. The third option for Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is one for monitoring the control voltage of the injection machine to ensure a reliable power supply and fast troubleshooting. The option monitors the power supply unit and intelligent circuit breakers that communicate permanently with the machine control to provide a real time result of actual and effective cycle current. Potential critical voltage peaks or generally high utilisation rates can be identified, and countermeasures can be initiated. For example, in the event of a sudden short circuit, the machine controller detects the

problem and generates an alarm. The 24 V voltage monitoring would shorten trou- bleshooting time by identifying the faulty circuit, allowing voltage availability to be restored faster while generating information about the error. Further developments to the portfolio of solutions include a focus on detecting abrasion and wear to the screw, the plasticising cylinder and the ball screws on its all-electric machine line, with an ultimate goal of full monitoring of all critical components that are prone to wear. Sumitomo (SHI) Demag also developed its

MyConnect modular platform to provide a real-time overview of machine parameters and production data. A fully integrated Site Control link establishes a direct connection with the CPU and HMI of the injection machine. Several injection presses can be combined in a network and the data collected can be aggregated to provide a more comprehensive overview of production. The network can be accessed through fixed or mobile terminals. The MyConnect Basic system features several modules or apps for data monitoring or getting service help. The MyProduction module provides 16 individually configurable dashboards to visualise any process value such as current production of good parts or current operating temperature. Users can configure the values into various types of diagrams. MyLiveCycleLog documents all essential machine events, offering the possibility to trace the history of the injection press. A MyAlarming module can be used to set up email notifications. The MyDocumentation module provides access to the latest version of documents, while the MySparePart function gives access online to the spare parts catalogue of the molding machine. The myMainte- nance module gives an overview of all pending maintenance tasks for the entire connected
