Bert Clymans, Business Develop- ment Manager Europe at Total Corbion PLA in The Netherlands, then talks about PLA coffee cups and caps in an end-of-life Circular Economy context. After the refreshment break sponsored by Kiefel, Sebastian Meyer, Head of Research & Develop- ment at Golden Compound in Germany, presents their work on certified home compostable bever- age capsules. The final paper of the day, address- ing capsule individualisation through colours and how to find the proper colour within seconds, is given by Diego Karpeles, Product Manager, at Gabriel-Chemie in Austria. A paper discussing in-mould labelling (IML) is given by Laurent Lombart, Managing Director at Capsul’In Pro in Luxembourg. The final presentation of the session, delivered by Jean-Paul Roosendaal, Director Global Strategy and Business Develop- ment, Weldspout & Capsules at Menshen in The Netherlands, looks at co-injection technology. Steve Morris, President & GM, Systems at
Milacron in the US, begins the fifth session of the conference with a discussion about the coffee pod system that reduces production costs. Henning Stieglitz, Chief Technology Officer BC Extrusion Holding at Battenfeld-Cincinnati in Germany, looks at how to keep the flavour with multi-layer sheet extrusion lines. A paper focusing on the developments in gas, aroma and migration barrier by transparent plasma enhanced, silicon oxide coating is then presented by Armin Mohr, General Manager at Plasma Electronic in Germany. After the lunch break the session continues with Sven Engelmann, Director of Packaging Technol- ogy at Illig Maschinenbau in Germany, who investi- gates the latest developments in metal substitution through thermoformed single-serve capsules. Maurizio Delnevo, CEO at ERMO in France, then explores localised injected compression. Bertram Stern, Sales Manager Packaging at
Arburg in Germany, assesses how to gain more benefit through technical advancements by the injection moulding of capsules. Closing the conference is Sascha Bach, Chief Technology Officer at Watttron in Germany, who discusses a heating technology for forming and sealing.
