CAPS & CLOSURES | INNOVATION
German company Gramß to produce disc-top closures for the cosmetics industry. It has two interlinked hybrid units, a 570 H for the closure base and a 470 H for the closure lid, operating with 24-cavity hot-runner moulds and inter- linked via two Multilift robotic systems. “With an overall cycle time of 18s, this outperformed a two-component solution using assembly injection moulding also under discussion, by around 3s and amortised in a short time,” says Arburg. “Furthermore, the system is more process-reliable than separate assembly.” Husky Injection Molding Systems continues to
make headway with its HyCap4 system for bever- age closures, which it introduced in 2016. “HyCap4 generates synergies from an integrated systems approach,” says Michael White, Business Manager, Beverage Closures. Some of these system-level enhancements include eject assist, mould align- ment and air pressure monitoring. Eject Assist technology provides increased functionality and control, reducing the time required to obtain an optimal ejection setting for parts and preventing damage in the process. The

HyCap4 is also offered with sensor-driven mould- alignment technology, providing real time feed- back on mould positioning and alerting the operator to any misalignment. Air pressure monitoring can help to reduce the
scrap rate, as incorrect air pressure values can result in closure defects, White notes. “Air pressure values, continuously monitored by sensors, are displayed on the machine HMI, rather than on individual gauges. This ensures quick and easy checking and allows the machine to display warning or alarm messages if necessary.” The system also has various tooling features
