Sapa forms automotive group following takeover
Automotive parts manufac- turer Sapa has taken a majority interest in Spanish injection moulding and moulds company Hispa- moldes with the goal of creating a leading supplier in the European sustainable mobility industry. The integration will give rise to Grupo Indea, through which Sapa says it will be able to further its consolida- tion and expansion plans, reinforcing and increasing its business volumes while expanding its geographic reach and diversifying its customer portfolio. Hispamoldes has 350 employees at four facilities and makes €38m in revenue. Giovanni Affinita, CEO of Sapa Spain, said: “In addition to implying our entry into the Spanish and Moroccan markets, this acquisition is highly comple-

mentary as it will bring us access to new production technologies that will reinforce and broaden the scope of our One-Shot method.” This is a patent pending system capable of combining all the steps needed to produce automo- tive parts into just one. Sapa sells its products to major European OEMs, including Stellantis, Volkswa-

Audi involved in MaterialLoop project
Audi is attempting to advance circularity in the automotive industry by forming a joint project with 15 partners from the research, recycling, and supply sectors called MaterialLoop. The aim of the project is to explore the reuse of so-called post-consumer materials taken from vehicles at the end of their lifecycle in the production of new cars. As part of the project, in October 2022, 100 vehicles were dismantled. The targeted disassembly of individual compo- nents enabled the retention of high-quality secondary materials such as larger plastic pieces for recycling. After disassembly, the remaining car bodies were shredded and sorted into material groups comprising steel, aluminium, plastic, and glass. The pilot project will run until the end of April, and Audi claims to already be putting valuable findings from the project into practice.
