SHOW PREVIEW | CHINAPLAS 2023

Right: Arburg produces the the Flexlift robot espe- cially for the Asian market

Arburg’s featured technology at Chinaplas celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the Hehl family company with the new Allrounder 470 H that Arburg has launched to mark the occasion. The 470 H machine is available in Comfort and Pre- mium performance variants. A Comfort version of the Allrounder 470 H will

produce adapters for the medical market mould- ing PC in a three-platen mould with 2+2 cavities. The cycle time is 25 s. The moulded parts are removed by the Flexlift 10 + 2 double-arm robot, the main arm can handle a payload of 10 kg, while its second arm can lift loads weighing 2 kg. The Flexlift robot was specially designed for the Asian market. The entire turnkey system that also has an

integrated camera test and a sample part drawer for quality assurance purposes, was designed, built and commissioned in the Arburg Technology Factory Pinghu. The gripper component of the Flexlift was also manufactured there in an additive manufacturing process on a Freeformer 300-3x (which is also being demonstrated at Chinaplas). In a demonstration for the electronics industry,

an Allrounder 370 H Ultimate with Gestica control- ler, 600 kN clamping force and size 290 injection unit is producing relay sockets from a 30% glass- fibre-filled PBT, in a cycle time of just 7 s using a 16-cavity injection mould. In automotive, an Allrounder 1600 T with 2,000 kN clamping force and size 170 injection unit will make fluid connections and connecting parts in PA 6 with 35% glass fibre content and metal inserts. The products are produced in a 4-cavity mould in a cycle time of around 40 s. This automated turnkey system was customised to include a punching unit with punching strip conveyor and a PIN removal system. www.arburg.com

BASF will show a new polyphthalamide (PPA) compound at Chinaplas devel- oped for moulded housings of IGBT (insulat- ed-gate bipolar transistor) semi-conductors. Ultra- mid Advanced N3U41 G6 LS is described as a laser sensitive, halogen-free flame retarded compound that combines high thermal stability with low water uptake and good electrical proper- ties. The UL-certified grade offers a Compara- tive Tracking Index (CTI) of >600V and an electrical RTI (Relative Thermal Index) value of

150°C. The halogen-free formulation helps avoid the risk of contact corrosion. www.basf.com

There will be two Boy machines demonstrated at Chinaplas, on the stand of its representative Trillion Machinery Holdings. The Boy 22 A machine, which has a clamping force of 220 kN and a footprint of only 1.85 m², is suitable in many areas of applica- tion. Three sizes of injection units as well as different screw diameters from 12 to 32 mm offer a versatile range of applications, says Boy. In addi- tion to thermoplastics, elastomers, silicones and thermosets can also be easily processed. The second machine, a Boy XS, was specially developed for micro and sprueless single-cavity injection moulding. Instead of the conventional pis- ton plasticising for this machine size, Boy uses screw plasticising from 8 to 18 mm according to the “first in first out” principle. The XS has 100 kN clamping force and a footprint of only 0.78 m². The machine is designed for small moulded parts. Boy says the highly sophisticated production process with the 8 mm screw requires attention to process- relevant injection moulding parameters. This process must always be considered in detail from application to application. www.dr-boy.de

Cargill will exhibit for the first time at Chinaplas 2023, presenting the range of specialty plastics additives it acquired when it bought Croda Performance Technolo- gies last year. The Crodamide range of slip and anti-block additives
