DIE DEVELOPMENTS | MACHINERY

typically takes between three and five months. The largest head produced so far is a monolayer

head up to 1200 mm for coating steel-reinforced RTP pipes. The smallest so far is for applying a two-layer coating to a 16 mm pipe.

PVC pipeheads Conextru has also released a new generation of PVC pipeheads in its PV range. The standard product line consists of a total of seven pipeheads covering the range from 10- 800mm (PV 63 up to PV 800). Rheological features include: pressure class 16

for each head, with high compression and wall thickness; no spider lines and high pressure resistance; wide output range and large volume, for a smooth inner surface; and a special ‘torpedo tip’ to achieve fast purging and raise flow charac- teristics; a mandrel consisting of a basic mandrel and extension; and a changeable die and mandrel in horizontal position. And – depending on head size – in nitrided, stainless steel or chrome version; ceramic heaters as standard outside and inside, plus special cylindrical inner heaters with good heat distribu-

tion; and, head isolation as an option. In addition, the company offers three sizes of

head for double strand execution: PV 63–2; PV 110 – 2; and PV 160 – 2 HP – a modification of a stand- ard PV 160 that reach 1000 kg/h in double strand (so 2 tonnes/hour). These heads can be combined with calibrators and vacuum spray tanks. For the vacuum tanks, vacuum control is achieved via PLC by adjusting the vacuum via the speed of the pump. “Double extrusion is becoming popular again,” said Dobrowsky. “In the last two years, demand has increased.” Conextru has recently delivered several systems

to South America. This includes a double-strand line for PP – in a new design – that can make four-layer pipes in double-strand, as well as two-layer pipes with stripes.
