Recovery service: latest in recycling and granulators

Whether it’s feeding

production waste back into the hopper or recovering post-consumer products,

re-granulating bulky objects is critical to the new sustainable plastics industry

An increasing need to recover and re-use plastics – whether after use, or during the production of extruded products – has led to a rise in the choice of recycling equipment, including granulators and shredders. Recycling specialist Lindner showed a number

of plastics recycling solutions at K2022. One example was its new Micromat HP series.

Micromat shredders have been used in plastics recycling for some time. Lindner says the new series boasts a powerful, gearless direct belt drive, an adjustable safety clutch – which protects against non-shreddables – and an adjustable knife system. The new model helps to increase throughput, which boosts productivity. Throughput for process- ing recyclable bales, for example, has risen from 3 tonnes/hour to 5 t/h. Another new feature is the automatic belt tensioning system (ATB), which guarantees an optimal operating point. This makes the process more energy efficient and almost eliminates the need for maintenance, says Lindner. Last year, the company moved into new offices and 14,000 sq m production area – and increased staff numbers by around 100. The new factory, in Spittal an der Drau in

Germany, provides more extensive automation and robotics than its previous facility. “By using the latest production technology, we

ensure high quality products,” said Michael Lackner, managing director of Lindner.

Series redesign Herbold Meckesheim has redesigned its SB series of granulators – and showed an example of this at K2022. The SML 60/100 SB 2 is suitable for wet opera- tion with horizontal forced feeding by means of screw conveyors. This makes space-saving installa- tions and easy feeding of the material possible, says the company.

Another cited advantage is the high throughput

capacity, thanks to a 1m wide inlet from the hopper and 50cm feeding screws that transport the material to be ground to the rotor. Seven rotor knives – and an optional third stator knife – allow up to 21 cuts per revolution. The result is that the unit can process PP at a rate of up to 2 tonnes per hour. “During development, the focus was on safety
