aspects and ease of maintenance,” said the company. “The feeding device together with the hopper can be hydraulically swung away in one piece to open the housing.” The case cover with the

stator knives in turn opens in the opposite direction, and the knives with the pressure bar are equipped with a lifting device for safe handling. The discharge trough is also easily accessible. The rubber rings of the machine’s

ground plate feet effectively absorb vibrations, which is

reflected in low noise emissions. Last year, Coperion acquired

Herbold, integrating the company into its recycling business unit – which plans to offer complete solutions for plastics recycling processing. “Together, we’ll have strong production and engineering locations in Europe, Asia, and North America,” said Markus Parzer, president of Coperi- on’s polymer division.

location and retain its name. Both companies will combine their capabilities in the field of recycling and integrate to build modular systems and plant solutions. The recycling business unit covers a number of technologies – from mechanical processing — shredding, washing, separating, drying, and agglomerating of plastics — to bulk material handling, feeding and extrusion, as well as com- pounding and pelletising. Werner Herbold, managing director of Herbold Meckesheim, added: “The combi- nation of our key technologies for the recycling industry has excellent prospects for the future.”

Machine update Weima exhibited an updated W5 shredding machine at K2022 last year. The W5.18 – a development

of its WKS series – has an output of up to 280kW. With its 1,800mm long and 500mm diameter rotor, it can shred hard plastics, tear- resistant fibres and films – partly thanks to the swing ram, which allows controlled material feed. A large

inspection flap provides direct access to the rotor during servicing. For demanding applications, such as contami-

nated material, Weima offers special options for wear and corrosion protection. These include a Vautid shell or hard facing using weld seams for the rotors, additional wear plates in the cutting chamber or wear-resistant screens made of Creusabro or Hardox. Cutting blades are available in 60mm and 80mm edge lengths. Machines in the W5 series can be equipped with

three different drive concepts. The hydraulic drive and high-torque drive are powerful, energy-effi- cient and robust against foreign objects, it says, while the electromechanical drive – with Weima- developed WAP gearbox – ensures low investment and maintenance costs. W5 machines also have connectivity features for networked production.

Profile cutting At K2022, Pallmann highlighted its Type PSP granulator. It is described as a tailor-made solution for cutting up various types of (mainly PVC) building profiles for such products as windows, roller blinds, and cladding. Aimed principally at handling production waste, the granulator can produce material for feeding straight back into the production line, or it can be ground into a powder using Pallmann fine grinding equipment. It can handle profile waste up to 6m length, without precutting, performing near-horizontal feeding of the profiles through a sound-insulated feed trough. The feed trough is pivoted, for better cleaning, while feed height is at hand level. A rotor draws in profiles automatically and continuously, says the company.

Advantages include: continuous size reduction; high throughput rate; optimum granule quality – and a lower percentage of fines; and low space requirement, due to a com- pact design. Optional extras include: an additional feed trough for short- pieced profile waste; and pre- lengthening for very long – or large amounts of – profile waste.

Universal success At K2022, Dreher introduced its new DX 60/100 universal granulator – which it says combines ease of operating, optimum efficiency and maximum safety.
